Nigeria’s army chief has died in a shipwreck.
Kathmandu, Nepal: According to international media reports, the ship carrying army chief Ibrahim Attahiru and other high-ranking military officials crashed in the northern state of Kaduna on Friday. Another 10 high-ranking military officials were killed in the crash.
The Nigerian Air Force said the plane crashed near Kaduna Airport and the cause of the crash was being investigated.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, does not have a good history of air safety.
Three months ago, a Nigerian Air Force passenger plane crashed near Abuja Airport after its engine failed.
Attahiru was appointed army chief by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari in January.
