Nepal: Lumbini Province Assembly Member Arjun Kumar KC stated Women have been subjected to violence under various pretexts. He said this at a program organized by Shivaraj Municipality of Kapilvastu on the occasion of 112th International Women’s Day in Chandraita on Tuesday.
Member KC said that women should be equal to men while ending violence. Speaking on the occasion, KC said that violence against women was still being perpetrated on various pretexts.
KC said that there is a tendency in society to have a lot of doubts if the daughter is late for the appointed time. He emphasized that the constitution has many rights for women and that all efforts should be made to implement them. On the issue of people’s representatives, he said that women should be aware as there is a provision that if the mayor is a man, then the deputy mayor should be a woman.
Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that the municipalities should focus on women’s empowerment. Bishnu Prasad Khatiwada, president of the National Human Rights Foundation, Kapilvastu, said that various incidents of discrimination against women were still taking place in society. Meanwhile, women’s rights activist Mina Pariyar said that all women should unite against the elements in the society that do not want to give leadership to women. Chairperson of the program and Deputy Chief of Shivaraj Municipality Shiva Kumari Tharu said that she should fight for her rights and claimed that she was with all the women of the town.
