Kapilvastu, Nepal: Mahuva is a type of fragrant flower found in the forest. Mahuva species found in the forests of various districts including in the Terai belt of Nepal.
Which is usually wasted by falling from the tree to the ground in the months of Chaitra, Baishakh, and Jetha (March, April, and May). It’s scientific name is Madhuca longifolia.
But the fragrant flowers of the same Mahuva have been used by the Tharu community in an interesting way.
Interestingly, Mahuva is used in the community to make Ayurvedic medicine and delicious liquor.
At this time, the citizens of the Tharu community reach the forest in the morning to collect Mahuva. Uma Shankar Tharu, chairman of the Tharu Welfare Association Kapilvastu, says that the Mahuva collectors will start their activities in the forest as soon as the Mahuva collection season begins.
He said, “People used to go to the forest in the morning to collect Mahuva, but this year Mahuva is not like other years.
Kallu Tharu, a leader of Tharu Kapilvastu, said that the Tharu community has been conducting homestays in various places recently.
He said that the Mahuva homestay operators also buy the Mahuva collected by the locals as the guests coming to the homestay prefer Mahuva liquor.
Similarly, Tharu said that alcohol is made at home to feed the guests who come to the house during various festivals.
Mahuva is a non-woody tree flower found in the forest. Its flowers bloom and fall throughout the spring season. Fallen flowers are collected, dried, and made into wine.
Although Mahuva is a fortifying herb, some people understand that it is being wasted due to a lack of scientific research. The locals collect Mahuva and make it later.
