Nepal: 50 Buddhists from Thailand came to Nepal and recited the Mahasamaya Sutta. From there, monks and worshipers came to the Mahavan located in Balakanth Baraju, Banganga Municipality-8 of Kapilvastu and recited the Mahasamaya Sutta.
The team came under the leadership of Dr. Chainarong Na Lamphun CEO of Index International Group of Thailand’s big construction company. In the team, the former governor (province head) of Thailand’s Mahengsong and Lamphun Dr. Direk Konkleb were also in the team
When Gautama Buddha came 15 years after attaining enlightenment, the Mahasamaya Sutta was preached, when there was a dispute between Sakya and Kolya over the water of the Rohini river. It is mentioned in Buddhist history that the Sutta was preached only once during the lifetime of the Buddha and was preached in the Mahavana of Kapilvastu on the day of Jeshtha Purnima. When Sumanglo, a monk from Nepal, went to Thailand, after being informed about the place, Thais were excited to come here. Thailand’s big construction businessmen, retired army majors, doctors and government employees have come here from different 5 provinces.
They were brought here in coordination with the Mahavan Buddhist Vihara located in Madhuvandham. He said that he will support the development of this region in the program organized here. During their visit, they provided 120,000 students and sports materials to two schools in Kapilvastu and Arghakhachi.
After reciting the Mahasamya Sutta, they visited Tilaurakot, Niglihwa and Lumbini, the Buddhist temple located in Kapilvastu.
Buddha preached the Mahasamaya Sutta to 10,000 Chakravarti deities and 250 Kolya and 250 Shakya monks in Mahavana. Monk Sumangalo said that it is mentioned in the Buddhist literature that 500 monks became arahants (bodhi-enlightened) after Deshana. This will help in promoting tourism here, he said. Thais love to come here. After reciting the Sutta, they prayed for world peace.
Mrs. Jintana Na Lamphun said that she was very happy to come to the place where the Buddha preached and recite the suttas. If I accumulated good virtue, she said, it has made me more devoted to peace and compassion.
It is mentioned that the Mahavan that Buddha visited is inside the Charkoshe bush. At that time, it is mentioned that the moon rose from the Yugandhara mountain on the eastern horizon. According to Buddhist scholar Chaturbhuj Pandey, it is mentioned in the Tripitaka that some monks sat in a cave and meditated after hearing the Buddha’s discourse. He claimed that the Buddha recited this Mahasamaya Sutta because the facts mentioned in Buddhist literature were found in the Mahavana here. “This place should be between Rohini and Rapti rivers,” he said, “There is no other place where such dense forest and geographical conditions meet.” Again, there are many old ruins and stone statues under the ground. Hewn stones and headless idols have also been found. He said that this is the Mahavana where the Buddha visited as the full moon can be seen rising on the south side of Karechuli mountain from here.
There is also the Banganga river and a cave near the river. According to Buddhist literature and geographical conditions, this place is still called Mahavana, according to Monk Wazir, vice-professor of Lumbini Buddhist University. Suttas have been recited to promote the place on the banks of the Banganga river in the thick forest area of Shala Tree (Shorea robusta) to make it a tourist destination. After going 3 km into the forest, the Mahavan area is reached. Buddha recited this verse on the day of Jestha Purnima. “So far, 27 Buddhas have preached this sutra,” he said. It is predicted that friendliness Buddha who will be born in the future will also perform the same.
