Nepal: A half-yearly review program of Chhand (Kalebabu) Narayani Eye Hospital, Bahadurganj has been conducted. The hospital located in Bahadurganj of the district operated under Nepal Eye Jyoti Sangh, Eye Health Program Rapti, and Bahadurganj. The overall activities carried out from July to January of 2078-079 BS were reviewed on Thursday.
According to the hospital, the target of 37,000 OPDs in a period of six months has been achieved by 29,453 or 79.60 percent. However, the target of performing 2,200 cataract surgeries has been achieved at 1,768 or 80.36 percent. The report states that out of the target of 2,250 cataract surgeries performed with the latest technology, only 1,379 or 61.28 percent of the target has been achieved.
Similarly, analyzing the data of OPD and surgery services, the hospital has stated that there are more women than men in both the services. According to the hospital, 52 percent of the women are receiving OPD services, 48 percent are men, 51 percent are women and 49 percent are men. During the same period, out of 192 major and minor surgery services provided by the hospital, 19 have received free services.
Similarly, the hospital has performed 1,626 cataract surgeries free of cost during the last six months with the help of various donor agencies. A total of 308 people have undergone free cataract surgery in the free eye camp conducted by the hospital in Maharajganj municipality and 190 people in the free eye camp conducted in Bijaynagar Rural Municipality. The Dev & Kerry (Dak) Foundation has provided financial support to the camp in Maharajganj. According to the hospital administration, the Tej Kohli and Ruit Foundation has provided financial support to the camp.
The hospital has started providing free surgery services to the patients who come to the hospital for treatment.
Accordingly, 1,318 cataract surgeries have been performed free of cost in the hospital in a period of 6 months. Of these, 383 cataract surgeries have been performed with the help of the Norwegian donor body Eye Care Foundation. Another donor, Tej Kohli & Ruit Foundation, has operated on 935 cataract patients free of cost. Jasraj Bishwakarma, head of the hospital, said that the hospital has adopted such a policy so that no patient has to go blind due to lack of funds.
According to Chief Bishwakarma, under the external program, the school eye check-up program has been conducted in 4 schools including 2 in Bijaynagar Municipality and 2 in Buddhabhumi Municipality. Similarly, primary eye treatment training has been provided to 18 mothers of Buddhabhumi Municipality, 28 teachers, 9 Dhamijhankris, and 24 women health volunteers of Bijaynagar Municipality.
During this period, the hospital also provided one-day primary eye treatment training for 22 journalists in Gorusinge, Kapilvastu.
During the review program, Shamsher Thapa, Chief Administrator of Nepal Eye Jyoti Sangh, Eye Health Program Rapti, and Bahadurganj informed about the achievements of three eye hospitals and treatment centers operated under Eye Health Program Rapti and Bahadurganj in 2021 BS.
Similarly, the accountant of the hospital Jenisha Thapa clarified the income and expenditure of the hospital during the half-yearly review program. The program was chaired by Sarada Chaudhary, Coordinator of the Administrative Committee of Chhand (Kalebabu) Narayani Eye Hospital, and hosted by Surendra Bahadur Khadka, Secretary of Nepal Eye Jyoti Sangh, Dang Branch. Dr. Sulakshmi Katuwal, Ophthalmologist Aarti Karakheti, Dr. Shilu Thapa, Information Officer Balaram Khadka, and others addressed the program.
