Nepali National Anthem Singer Thapa Dies From Corona

Kathmandu, Nepla: Ajay Thapa, one of the singers of Nepali national anthem ‘Saayun Thunga Phoolka Hami eutai mala Nepali’ has passed away today from Corona. A resident of Mechinagar Municipality-3, Badakhal, was admitted to B&C Hospital in Birtamod for treatment after contracting corona last Sunday.

According to Pramish Giri, public relations officer at B&C Hospital, he perished at 6:00 a.m. this morning while being treated on a ventilator. Radha Thapa, his wife, is being treated at the same hospital with a corona infection. He has two daughters and a son in the United States.

According to his neighbour and writer Sachin Subba Yakso, the daughters arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday and the boy will arrive on Saturday.

The national anthem composed by Byakul Myaila and music by Ambar Gurung has been used in Nepal since 14 July 2064 B.S., following the triumph of the Jana Andolan in 2062/63 B.S. It is written into the Nepalese Constitution of 2072 BS.
