Kapilvastu: A debate program has been organized on the occasion of National Child Rights Day at Kapilvastu’s Shivaraj-5, Chandrauta. Children’s Day is celebrated with a debate program for the prevention of child labor with the slogan “Protection of child rights is the responsibility of all of us”.
Netra Raj Adhikari, Mayor of Shivaraj Municipality, while answering the questions raised by children and media persons on the issue of children’s rights, said that Shivaraj Municipality has always been in the field of children’s rights. He said that he has made a lot of efforts in the field of child rights and the reduction of child labor in the last five years after being elected as the mayor. He also expressed his commitment to work in the future as well.
The chief officer said that all the children of Shivaraj were involved in the campaign for full school enrollment. He said that he would explain the situation of child labor if he saw it and the situation of child labor in Shivaraj’s business was less than in other places.
Similarly, the Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Kapilvastu, Dhan Bahadur Karki said that children should be empowered in every possible way. He said that school-police partnership programs, drug addiction, cybercrime, safe use of social media, child marriage, witchcraft, and child abuse have been conducted to make the attitude towards children and the police positive.
Superintendent of Police Karki said that if there was any problem, inform the police, the police would investigate and give justice.
Meanwhile, human rights activist Arjun Thapa said that various organizations including KIRDAC Nepal, Human Rights Monitoring Committee, Diyalo Nepal, and others have been working in the field of child rights and formed children’s clubs in the community to listen to the problems and grievances of children. While working in the field of child rights, many children are still being deprived of their child rights.
Similarly, Mahadev Pokhrel, president of the Trade Association Kapilvastu, said that he would help in reducing child labor by monitoring the use of children in trade and business in different sectors. Responding to a question from children of various clubs, Pokhrel, a central member of the trade association, said that he would not use children in the course of running a business, but expressed his commitment to reducing child labor from his area due to various reasons and excuses.
According to the organizers, a debate program on children’s rights and reduction of child labor was organized on the occasion of National Children’s Day by Dalit Human Rights Monitoring Committee Kapilvastu and Asha Sanjaal and Shivraj Children’s Club.
The debate program was chaired by Mina Pariyar, Chairperson of Dalit Human Rights Monitoring Committee Kapilcastu, Shri Bhandari, Program Coordinator of KIRDARC Nepal, Shankar Acharya, Chief of Ward Police Office Chandrauta, members of various children’s clubs of Shivraj, and officials of various NGOs.
