Nepal: Protests against high bank interest rates, microfinance and metered interest have been demonstrated in Kapilvastu’s Chandraita. CPN-led West Kapilvastu District Committee organized a protest on Friday.
Binod Luitel, the district secretary of the CPN, said that the slogans of controlling the high-interest rate of the bank, punishing the meter usury, ending the micro-finance exploitation, applying the interest rate of 1 digit, ending the excess of micro-finance and giving relief to the national industrialists.
Sanjib Jhakri, a member of Polit Details, while addressing the meeting in Chandrauta, said that the high-interest rate caused problems when the workers lost their jobs due to the displacement of the industrial factories.
Microfinance is forcing people to commit suicide when there is a problem. Stating that the foreign brokers have created the hollow, he said that their main role is to bring the common people to the streets.
He mentioned that brokers of foreign powers are spending huge amounts of money even for ordinary programs. Member Zhakri also says that the steps taken by MCC are not in the interest of Nepal and Nepali people.
Meanwhile, central member of the party, Hemant Chaudhary, warned that banks, micro-finance institutions, and other institutions should improve interest rates for the benefit of common citizens. He claimed that if the relevant bodies do not regulate, they will move forward with the program of further agitations, and they will not hesitate to bring those who have committed excesses to the legal court.
District Secretary of the party Luitel said that everyone has the right to live freely and should be able to live in a self-respecting way. If any bank or financial institution has committed excesses, he also requested the person to come in contact with CPN.
