The leadership of Chandrauta Drinking Water after eight years, The Horizon Times, News of Nepal

Nepal: Chandrauta Drinking Water Consumers and Sanitation Association in Chandrauta, Shivaraj Municipality-5 of Kapilvastu, which has been in dispute for a long time, has got new leadership after nearly eight years. Despite repeated discussions with local intellectuals, social activists, and political parties, the election could not be held. Now, a nine-member working committee has been formed under the leadership of Daman Prasad Chhetri (Narayan) from the election held on Wednesday.

Similarly, a nine-member working committee has been formed with Laxmi Upadhyaya as vice-chairman, Krishna Prasad Adhikari as secretary, Gyan Bahadur Baijali as deputy secretary and Sahen Shah Khan as treasurer, said Arjun Bahadur Pandey, coordinator of the constituency. Constituency Coordinator Pandey also informed that the newly elected office bearers will be sworn in on March 27.

Constituency member Sharad Adhikari said that the election was scheduled to be held on March 26 but other political dissatisfied with the election process. Member Adhikari said that the election process did not take place despite the coordination of other party alliances against the CPN-UML.

As per the election schedule, publication of voter list on 7th April, protests against the claim on 8th morning, publication of final list till 12 noon on 8th, distribution of nomination forms at 4 pm on 8th, the nomination of candidates on 9th morning, protest against the claim on 9th day, 9th. Withdrawal of candidature in the afternoon, publication of a final list of common candidates and distribution of election symbols on 9th, campaigning on 10th and 11th, and polling from 8 am to 3 am on 12th, and election date on 12th.

According to locals, Mohammad Taufik Khan, who was the chairperson for about eight years before this, could not even hold a general assembly. The General Assembly could not be held even after the date of the General Assembly was fixed three times in a span of 5 years. Despite the legal provision that elections should be held every four years, Chairman Khan had been leading the party for almost eight years by confusing the people. Therefore, a new working committee has been formed after the old committee was automatically dissolved.

Madhusudan Pokharel who is also a member of the Nepali Congress Shivraj Nagar and a member of the constituency, said that the election was held in a one-sided manner. He complained that they could not register their candidacies on time as the gate of the office was locked. Pokharel also claimed that the election would not be held as it was held in a consensual manner.
