Health crisis in Kapilvastu, Shivraj Hospital getting dilapidated due to lack of budget, Nepal

Kapilvastu: Shivaraj Hospital in Krishnanagar Municipality-9, Bahadurganj of Kapilvastu, Nepal is getting dilapidated due to a lack of budget. The oldest hospital in the district is getting dilapidated due to a lack of budget and manpower. The hospital has stated that the service has been affected due to the difficulty in running the hospital that treats the citizens.

Chairman of the Hospital Management Committee, Krishnanagar Municipality Chief Rajat Pratap Shah said that the service was affected due to lack of budget at Shivraj Hospital, which was merged with the local body. He said that the hospital, the oldest hospital in the district and the second oldest in the country, which was established in 1998 B.S, has not been able to improve even though the local level has not taken care of it.

Shah said that the citizens seeking services from the hospital have been affected as the state and the federation has not paid attention to the development of the hospital.

The hospital now has five large oxygen cylinders, three small ones and nine oxygen concentrators. The X-ray machine in the hospital is also old. Although the municipality has been allocating budget for the operation of the hospital every year, there is not enough money to purchase the necessary equipment for the hospital, said Shah.

Stating that no assistance has been received from the Union and the province for upgrading and technical aspects of the hospital. Shah also expressed that the hospital cannot be run with the budget of the municipality.

Although the municipality has been allocating more than 10 million rupees for the hospital every year, the amount is insufficient, said Shah. The federation and the province should allocate budget for the operation of the hospital. Now the municipality cannot operate, the province should take responsibility added Shah. ”

Similarly, Chief of the hospital Dr. Mukesh Kumar Chaudhary said that there was a problem due to lack of doctor management even when one MBBS doctor in the hospital could not check the patients of Corona and other patients during the third wave of the Corona.

Along with Krishnanagar Municipality, citizens of Shivraj Municipality, Vijaynagar Municipality, Maharajganj Municipality and neighboring India are also receiving services at the hospital. Similarly, the 15-bed Shivraj Hospital has 28 permanent staff but now there are only eight including one MBBS doctor, according to the hospital administration.

The municipality has been operating the hospital by appointing 31 contract employees. The hospital management committee has stated that the service flow has been affected due to lack of staff even in the hospital administration branch.
