Chandrauta, Kapilvastu: Samsher Thapa, senior administrative officer of Chhand Kalebabu Narayani Eye Hospital, said that a light campaign has been launched to reduce blindness, organized by Nepal Eye Jyoti Organization Chhand Kalebabu Narayani Eye Hospital in Chandrauta on Monday.
Hospital officer Thapa said that a campaign has been launched to reduce the problem of blindness among the people due to minor negligence. During a discussion with journalists at the basic eye health program organized in Kapilvastu, Thapa informed that the program would be conducted effectively. He said that a campaign has been launched to bring people to the eye treatment center as there are a large number of blind people in Lumbini.
During the campaign, discussion trainings were conducted with teachers of various schools, students and people’s representatives for the reduction of blindness. Presenting the statistics that more than 16,000 people go blind in Lambini every year, he said that the people still do not have access to treatment. According to Thapa, 4,200 people in Kapilvastu district have to undergo cataract surgery.
Upendra Chand, External Program Coordinator of the Eye Hospital and OPD in-charge, gave information on various issues including common eye diseases and treatment and injuries, healthy eye symptoms and vision defects. Citizens with healthy eyes should also get their eyes checked once a year, said Jasraj Bishwakarma, administrative officer of the hospital. Vishwakarma also urged to be vigilant as the problem of blindness has increased as eye problems have become normal.
