Lighting of lamps in Chandrauta against human trafficking, The Horizon Times, News of Nepal

Kapilvastu: A lamp lighting program has been completed on the occasion of the 15th National Day against Human Trafficking and Smuggling. According to the organizers, a lamp lighting program was held at Chandrauta Chowk on Sunday under the slogan “Human Trafficking Free Society, Our Commitment, Efforts, and Solidarity of All”.

Lumbini Province Assembly member Arjun Kumar KC said that human trafficking was a heinous crime and those who committed the crime should be brought to justice and punished severely. He said that the work done by the Peace Rehabilitation House against human trafficking, which has been active in Kapilvastu for a long time, was commendable.

He claimed that the house had rescued the girl child who had fallen prey to various temptations or had involved ordinary citizens in illegal activities abroad and had contributed to the control of trafficking. Member KC urged to conduct public awareness program to prevent human trafficking.

Similarly, Shivraj Nagar Chief Netra Raj Adhikari said that arms trafficking and human trafficking were the same crime. Stating that human trafficking is ironic in the 21st century, he said that it is necessary for political parties, people’s representatives, and civic leaders to control it hand in hand.

He urged all the children of the society to be educated and aware about this trafficking and take initiative for prevention from their respective places. The city chief also urged to take action against the active gangs involved in human trafficking during Covid-19.

Bhumiraj Bhattarai, Regional Coordinator of the Peace Rehabilitation Center, said that anti-trafficking day has been celebrated since 2061 B.S. Shivraj Nagar Chief Shiva Kumari Tharu, Dalit Human Rights Foundation President Meena Pariyar, Trade Association Kapilvastu President Mahadev Pokharel and youth leader Ajay Thapa among dozens of civic leaders.
