Kapilvastu, Nepal: Women of Shivaraj Municipality-5 of Kapilvastu have been provided training in making Dhaka cloth.
It is stated that 16 women have been trained for two months with the financial support of the ward office and facilitation of Dalit Human Rights Monitoring Committee Kapilvastu.
Addressing the concluding program of the training on Wednesday, Mayor Netra Raj Adhikari said that the lessons learned from the training should be put into practice.
Stating that the municipality has conducted various vocational training targeting women, the official also said that the Dhaka garment-making training would help in making women self-employed.
He suggested that the trained women form a group and arrange for the production and sale of clothes through the same group.
The mayor also expressed his commitment to helping the municipality in marketing and other works if women become entrepreneurs.
Similarly, Shivraj Municipality Ward No. 5 Chairman Arjun Pandey claimed that the training was conducted on the basis of women’s demands. He stressed the need to work in a professional manner as training alone is not enough.
Mina Pariyar, the chairperson of the Dalit Human Rights Monitoring Committee, Kapilvastu, said that the participants of the training, which started on Falgun 4, have been trained in making Dhaka cloth.
In the program, trainer Samjhana Pariyar taught how to make the latest kind of Dhaka burqa, coat cloth, suit, and other clothes.
Rinadevi Tharu, a participant, said that she was able to acquire skills through training while sitting at home.
