Street drama against child marriage

A street drama program against child marriage has been organized in Sarawal Rural Municipality of West Nawalparasi, Nepal with the support of ABC Nepal, Storm Foundation in the cooperation of Sarawal Rural Municipality and the Srijaanshel Teen Group.

The group’s chairperson Shirity Chaudhary’s chairperson and SST group member Maya Thakur’s chief guest and Dialogue Adolescent Network’s chairperson Mahesh Yadav’s were the special guest. Thakur stated the future will be dark if children are married in early age. And also pushed them towards gaining education before marriage.

Speaking on the occasion, special guest Yadav said that children can get married only when they reach a suitable age. But the people in our community and the children are being forced into child marriage by their own parents.

As a result, the children’s education as well as their future has deteriorated. And in order to reduce child marriage, we must speak out against it from our own families, communities, and societies. He said that he will be involved in the child-friendly campaign with the slogan “Marriage in over twenty years”.

The program was attended by ST group member Pramila Thakur, ABC Nepal facilitator Sabita Chaudhary, Durga B.K and teenagers from Tilaili, Nepal. The program was conducted by Sandeep B.K, Treasurer of Samvad Adolescents Network.
