Why it is mandatory to mention Tharu in surname, know the valid reason, Tharu Welfare Assembly, The Horizon Times, News of Nepal

Kapilvastu: A central member of the Tharu Welfare Assembly Janjir Prasad Tharu has said that some Tharu will not be left out in the census being released by the government. This was stated by Tharu at a program organized in Gorusinghe of the district on Saturday.

Addressing the 12th National Census Public Awareness and Training and Tharu Welfare Assembly Municipal Working Committee formation program organized by Tharu Welfare Assembly Kapilvastu District Working Committee, he said that TWA was not against the government. He said that the local Tharu leaders should be aware of the census prepared by the government and participate in the census.

He said that it was sad that the population of the Tharu community was low. Stating that the community is not united due to political tension in the Tharu community, Tharu said that it is important for all to play their role from their respective places to maintain harmony without discrimination on the basis of language, religion, surname, and gender. He stressed the need to add Tharu behind all the different surnames of the Tharus and write down the true facts and figures.

TWA central member Sumitra Tharu urged the current census to identify the real Tharu. Demanding to send Tharu enumerators to the areas where Tharu is predominant, she informed the general public and officials of the community to write Tharu after writing Kusmi, Rautar, Katharia, Dahit, Mahato, and Gachchhadar.

Chairman of the Tharu Bouddha Samaj Kapilvastu, Jaleshwor Prasad, said that every civic leader of the Tharu community has been playing games on the disappearing existence. He also pledged to make the Tharu community aware of the recent census.

Meanwhile, a 21-member working committee has been formed under the chairmanship of TWA Buddhabhumi city level Santram Tharu. District Working Committee Secretary Jagat Dev Tharu informed that Shiva Ghulam Tharu has been unanimously elected as the secretary and Shiva Kumari Tharu as the treasurer.

The program was chaired by TWA Kapilvastu District President Uma Shankar Tharu, Buddhabhumi Nagar Deputy Chief Mira Tharu, TWA former central member Bhajraj Tharu, TWA Mahila Sabha central member Kamala Tharu and TWA Kapilvastu district secretary Sarita Tharu and dozens of Tharu leaders were present.
