70% subsidy in province 5, Nepal

The province government is going to run onion and garlic mission program. The Province 5 government has said that they will launch an onion and garlic mission from the current fiscal year as soon as the price skyrockets in Nepal after India imposed a ban on onion exports.

A group of farmers who want to cultivate onion and garlic can apply for the proposal as specified by the Ministry.

Shridhar Gyanwali, senior agriculture development officer at the Ministry of Land, Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives of province 5, said that preparations have been made to implement the program in six districts of the Terai region.

Mr. Gyanwali  also stated to run the Garlic Onion Mission program in the Terai from Nawalparasi to Bardiya. We also support in different way those who plant in small areas in mountainous districts.

According to the mission, the province government will provide 70 percent subsidy to the group of commercial farmers who cultivate onions. For that, farmers have to form groups to cultivate 5 hectares of land together.
