Chinese Defense Minister Meets Prime Minister Oli

Kathmandu, Nepal: Chinese Defense Minister and State Councilor General Wei Fenghe, who is on a one-day visit to Nepal, has met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

According to Surya Thapa, Press Adviser to the Prime Minister, Wei met Prime Minister Oli in Baluwatar, Nepal on Sunday afternoon.

Defense Minister Wei landed at Tribhuvan International Airport on a chartered ship at around 11:45 am on Sunday.

Led by a 21-member delegation, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, Secretary at the Ministry of Defense Reshmiraj Pandey, Rathi Prabhuram Sharma of the Nepal Army, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hu Yanchi and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kali Prasad Pokharel were present at the airport to welcome Fenghe.

Home Minister Thapa gave a bouquet of flowers at the reception. Before the arrival of the coronavirus, it was customary to shake hands. Due to carnage of coronavirus the welcome was greeted by flowers offering.

Chinese Defense Minister Fenghe made it clear that the purpose of his visit was to further strengthen existing ties between the two countries by enhancing mutual military cooperation.

Defense Minister Fenghe is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Bidhyadevi Bhandari. He will return China today after a successful meeting.
